FOOTBALL, BACK WHERE IT BELONGS

ABOUT THE CONTINENTAL FOOTBALL LEAGUE

A historic football league reborn for a new era of fans, families, players, and communities.

The Continental Football League returns in Summer 2026 with a bold purpose: to bring professional football back to the people in a way that feels authentic, affordable, exciting, and deeply connected to the communities it serves.

FOOTBALL, BACK WHERE IT BELONGS

BUILT FOR CITIES THAT STILL LOVE THE GAME

The Continental Football League is built for communities that still crave the energy of game day, the pride of a hometown team, and the excitement of outdoor professional football during the heart of summer. This is football for fans who never stop talking about the game, for families looking for a great night out, and for players still chasing opportunity.

A LEAGUE WITH REAL HISTORY

A FOOTBALL NAME WITH REAL ROOTS

First launched in 1965, the original Continental Football League established a proud place in professional football history with teams, rivalries, and communities that embraced the game with real passion. The modern CoFL is built on a historic football name with a real past — and a new mission for today’s fans, players, and markets.

THE PEOPLE'S LEAGUE

FOOTBALL SHOULD STILL FELL CLOSE ENOUGH TO TOUCH

First launched in 1965, the original Continental Football League established a proud place in professional football history with teams, rivalries, and communities that embraced the game with real passion. The modern CoFL is built on a historic football name with a real past — and a new mission for today’s fans, players, and markets.

BUILT ON REAL COMMUNITY BUY-IN

THIS IS WHAT THE PEOPLE'S LEAGUE LOOKS LIKE

The Ohio Valley Ironmen reflect the kind of community-rooted football culture the CoFL stands for. Historically known as the Wheeling Ironmen, the franchise has long represented the idea that a team can become part of a region’s identity.

SUMMER FOOTBALL THAT EXTENDS THE SEASONS

THE CoFL KEEPS FOOTBALL ALIVE IN JUNE AND JULY

The Continental Football League plays its regular season in June and July, giving fans something rare and exciting: outdoor professional football through the heart of summer. As other spring leagues conclude, the CoFL keeps the game going — bridging fans into NFL training camps, college football buildup, and the return of high school and college seasons.

THE CONTINENTAL SHIFT

NFL RULES THROUGH THREE QUARTERS. A MODIFIED CANADIAN-STYLE SHIFT IN THE FOURTH.

For the first three quarters, CoFL games follow traditional NFL rules. Then the fourth quarter changes the game. The Continental Shift introduces a faster, more urgent style inspired by Canadian football concepts — creating more pressure, more drama, and fewer opportunities for teams to simply sit on a lead.

MORE URGENCY

The game speeds up when it matters most.

MORE DRAMA

Late leads become harder to protect.

MORE IDENTITY

A fourth-quarter twist unique to the CoFL.

FOR PLAYERS

Film, reps, and real opportunity.

FOR COACHES

A place to lead, teach, and build.

FOR COMMUNITY

A team that can become part of the local identity.

FOR FANS

A closer, more personal connection to football.

REAL TEAMS IN REAL PLACES

THE CoFL BELIEVES TEAMS SHOULD BE PART OF THE COMMUNITIES WHOSE NAMES THEY WEAR

CoFL teams are meant to do more than show up on game day. They are built to practice where they play, connect with their communities, and become part of the sports and civic identity of their markets. That local presence matters because it creates authenticity. And authenticity creates lasting connection.

THE 2026 REBIRTH

The return of the Continental Football League is about more than reviving a name. It is about football-hungry communities, affordable summer nights, real opportunity, a distinct fourth-quarter identity through the Continental Shift, and a belief that football still belongs close to the people who love it most.
