THE STORY

THE CONTINENTAL

SHIFT

NFL rules through three quarters. A modified Canadian-style shift in the fourth.

For the first three quarters, CoFL games follow traditional NFL rules. Then the fourth quarter changes the game.

The Continental Shift introduces a faster, more urgent style inspired by Canadian football concepts — increasing drama, discouraging teams from sitting on a lead, and keeping fans locked in until the final score.

THE RACE BEGINS IN 2026

The CoFL’s 2026 return is built around active clubs in the North and South, all chasing a place in the Continental Cup at Grand Park in Indianapolis.

The Norfolk Neptunes begin their return in 2026 as an affiliate club, playing select Northern Division road games ahead of their full CoFL launch in 2027.
